The Pratima is said to date back to the 2nd or 7th century VK.
A Shravak named Sangram Soni, who was an elected official (Mantri) of Badshah Ghiyas-ud-din, was elected.
He subsequently built 17 Jinalays, including the temple at Makshi, in VK 1472. The Pratishta was performed by Acharya Somsundarsuriji Maharaj.
During Mahmud Ghazni's rule, the temple was targeted, but he fell seriously ill and saw fearful visions, leading him to leave Makshi without destroying it.
