It was also known as Trambavati, which served as a large seaport for trade.
Kalikal Sarvagna Hemchandrasuriji Maharaj's diksha occasion was held here in Sagad Vasahi in VK 1150.
Udayan Mantri (the Mantri of Sidhraj Jai Sinh and Raja Kumarpal) lived here.
A long time ago, during the era of Shri Naminath (of the past chobisi), a devotee named Ashadhi Shravak created a beautiful pratima.
This pratima was later taken to Devaloka (heaven) and was worshipped for many ages.
Later, Nagaraj built a temple by the sea, where people continued to worship it for a long time.
Shree Ramchandra ji also worshipped this pratimaji; due to its grace, he crossed the sea to Lanka.
Because of this divine miracle where the waters were stopped to make a way, he gave the name Stambhan Parshwanath.
Even Krishna Maharaja brought it to Dwaraka and workshipped .
When Dwaraka was destroyed, the Pratima was placed in the ocean to keep it safe and was worshipped by divine beings for thousands of years.
Many years later, a businessman named Dhan from Kantipur was traveling by sea.
Suddenly, his ships stopped and could not move; he became very worried and considered jumping into the sea.
A divine voice told him not to jump and instead to retrieve the miraculous pratima from the ocean.
Dhan found the Pratima along with two others and performed the pratishta at Kantipur.
Pratishtha of the other two Pratimas was done in Charup and Patan, where they can still be seen today.
Two thousand years later, a yogi named Nagarjun took this pratima for his spiritual practice.
It was later kept beneath the earth beside the Shedi river, under a Palash tree.
once Acharya Abhaydevsuri ji became seriously ill when he was young and intended to fast unto death.
A divine voice told him about the Pratima of Stambhan Parshwanath hidden near the Shedi river and was also advised to sprinkle the abhishek jal on himself, which later cured him.
A temple was built on the riverbank and pratishtha was performed there; in the year VK 1368, the Pratima was moved to Khambat.
Over time, the temple has been renovated several times, with the last major Jirnodhar in VK 1984 under the guidance of Acharya Shri Nemisuri ji Maharaj.
At present, there are more than 64 Jinalays in Khambat.
