Sacred History

  • The shrine of Shankeshwar is called Shankhpur in both ancient and modern texts.
  • The village is named after the miracle-working idol of Shankeshwar Parshwanath.
  • Ashadhi Shravak (of the past chubisi) made three pratimas, which are located in Charup, Khambat, and Shankeshwar.
  • When Shri Krishna's army was affected by Jarasandh's Vidhya, Bhagwan Neminath suggested him to perform an attham Tap.
  • Shri Krishna followed this advice; as a result, the Shashan devi provided the murti of Parshwanath Bhagwan.
  • The Snatra Jal of the Bhagwan was sprinkled on Krishna's army, restoring their consciousness and allowing them to defeat Jarasandh.
  • Due to this victory, Shri Krishna blew his Shankh, leading the village to be named Shankpur.
  • The Pratimaji has been here for more than 86,000 years.
  • In VK 1155, Sajjanshah Mantri rebuilt the Jinalay with guidance from Acharya Devchandrasuriji Maharaj.
  • Maha Mantri Vastupal and Tejpal performed a Jirnodhar of the temple.
  • Due to threats from Allahuddin Khilji, the Pratima was hidden underground in the 14th century.
  • In VK 1760, the Jinalay was rebuilt and Pratishtha was performed again.
  • This Pratima has been worshipped by Nami-Vinami, Shree Ram, and others.
